Real Country Morning Show 5:30a-10a

Hey, I’m Dave Thomas and I couldn’t be happier to be back on the air on WSIG. This station is so unique and special and to be able to be the one to start each day is such a blessing and a thrill. Hopefully you’ll tune and spend some time with me.

RJ – 3p-7p

Hey it’s RJ… With the exception of a few excursions, I’ve been here…well…all my life. Direct from Bridgewater! I’ve been in local broadcasting for many years and I am excited to have a home on the radio with WSIG, where you’ll find me weekdays from 2p-7p!

Robbie – 7pm-12am

Howdy, y’all! The name is Robbie and I’ve always had a love for country music and entertainment. I even took a swing at acting in NYC, where I rubbed shoulders with the likes of Kevin Bacon and Jamie Foxx before finding my true calling behind the mic.
Radio is where my heart beats loudest, and I’ve been lucky enough to take my emceeing talents across the world, calling CrossFit events with the same energy you’d find at a honky-tonk on a Saturday night. When I’m not on the air, you can catch me kicking back with a glass of good whiskey (or a cider—hey, don’t judge), hanging with my wife Katie, and spoiling our pandemic-adopted cat, Lucy (even though I’m allergic)
I’m a die-hard New York Giants and Yankees fan, so I know a thing or two about heartbreak and redemption—just like any great country song. And when I’m off the clock, you’ll find me at a local coffee shop, chasing down the best eats, or soaking in the simple joys of life here in the Valley.
Glad to be here, and can’t wait to ride this wave with y’all! 🎙️🤠

Les – Bluegrass

Les Irby’s Bluegrass Saturday Night is a true original and by far the most popular specialty music program in the Valley,  A Shenandoah County native, Les has lived many places but his heart has always been in the Valley.  The Bluegrass bug was planted early when as a kid Les enjoyed watching Reno and Smiley on television. It also helped that the woman who babysat him loved Bluegrass and listened to it constantly.  But his love of Bluegrass really came in the seventies when he attended Bluegrass festivals for the party, but learned to appreciate the music. This is where the things he respects most about the music came into focus: the music’s history, honesty, and real emotions.  Les has hosted Bluegrass Saturday Night on WSIG for over 15 years.

You can listen to Bluegrass Saturday Night on WSIG Saturdays 6pm-midnight.  You can also catch Les Irby overnights from 12am-6am and during Country Sunday from 9am-noon.

Dusty Rhodes (In Memoriam)

November 7, 1946 – May 20, 2020

A nearly life-long resident of the Shenandoah Valley, Dusty Rhodes was a household name! Dusty started his radio career in the Valley at WHBG-AM in 1966. After stints in Pennsylvania, DC, and Winchester, Dusty returned to the Valley in the late 1980’s.

WSIG welcomed Dusty to the family in 2012, and he remained with us until his retirement in January 2020.

Dusty passed peacefully at his Elkton home May 20, 2020, shortly after he said he was “ready to be with Jesus” and his beloved wife, Barbara, who predeceased him years earlier.

Bill (In Memoriam)

Bill Phipps joined the Real Country 96.9 WSIG family from 3-7pm weekday afternoons in April of 2013 after spending nearly twenty years at its now-sister station WSVA.  He began his career in radio/TV in 1971.  Having grown up in Atlanta before his professional life, Bill was a rabid Braves, Falcons, and University of Georgia fan, but cheered for the Nats, Redskins, UVA, Virginia Tech, JMU, and Bridgewater College as well.  Bill left this world August 30, 2016, after a 2-year battle with brain cancer.  He leaves behind his wife Paula, four children, five grandchildren, and two loving cats.
