HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball advanced Lexi Rogers to the position of assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by Head Coach Loren LaPorte. Following a successful playing career at JMU, Rogers stepped into a graduate assistant position for the 2026 season and now joins the Dukes’ staff ahead of the fall season and the 2027 campaign.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Lexi Rogers back to our program in this new role,” said LaPorte “As an alum, she understands what it means to wear purple and gold and the pride that comes with representing this program. She brings passion, knowledge, and commitment to our team, and her experience makes her a tremendous addition to our coaching staff. I’m excited to see the impact she will have on our student-athletes and the continued growth and success of our program.”

In her new role, Rogers will assist in coaching the Dukes’ position players on both the offensive side and defensive side of the diamond.

“Harrisonburg has truly become home, and as a proud JMU alum, taking on this role with our softball program is a dream come true,” said Rogers. “Having worn the uniform and served as a GA, I am excited to bring that perspective into my coaching and help drive our team’s continued success.”

This past season, Rogers aided the Dukes’ staff which oversaw a third consecutive above .500 season as JMU reached a final record of 27-24 (13-11 SBC) in 2026.

Rogers was a mainstay in the JMU infield from 2022-25 as the Bellefonte, Pa. native appeared in 144 games and made 57 starts for the Dukes. For her career, Rogers accumulated 188 at bats, 48 hits, 27 runs, 9 doubles, 12 home runs and 38 RBI’s while holding a .255 career batting average. Rogers made a career-high 49 appearances in 2024 and helped the Dukes achieve a 31-win season.

Rogers embodied what it means to be a Duke on the field and in the classroom, collecting numerous academic awards over the course of her career. Most notably, Rogers was named to the 2024-25 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List and was given NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete distinction.
