BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – A late strike from Lucio Bianchi propelled the Bridgewater College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Marymount on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
• The Eagles dominated the early stages, outshooting Marymount 7-4 in the first half. Esteban Guarin registered Bridgewater’s only shot on target, but Marymount’s Adam Elonai made the save, keeping the match goalless at the break.
• Bridgewater quickly found the scoreboard after halftime. Riley Queen netted his sixth goal of the season in the 48th minute, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
• Marymount leveled the score in the 63rd minute when Christopher Argueta scored to make it 1-1
• With fewer than 10 minutes left in the match, Bianchi delivered a decisive blow. The freshman executed a powerful free kick in the 82nd minute, sending the ball into the upper-left corner of the net, putting Bridgewater ahead 2-1. The Eagles successfully defended their lead in the final minutes to claim the win.

Match Notes
• Bianchi’s goal marked his fourth of the season and his first game-winner.
• Marymount managed a total of six shots, with only two on target throughout the match
• Bridgewater outshot Marymount 14-6, with five shots on target. The Eagles also limited the Saints to just two shots in the second half.

What’s Next?
The Eagles will look to use their momentum to take down cross-town rival Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday Sept. 16, which will mark the start of ODAC play for the Eagles.
