LEXINGTON, Va. (BC Athletics) — Riley Queen scored a second-half equalizer and Zane Kowalski made six saves as the Bridgewater College men’s soccer team battled Washington and Lee to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Watt Field. The Eagles overcame a halftime deficit in a physical contest featuring 32 fouls and six yellow cards, remaining unbeaten in conference play.

Score: Bridgewater 1, Washington and Lee 1
Records: Bridgewater 9-3-3 (4-0-3); Washington and Lee 9-2-3 (3-1-3)

How It Happened
• Bridgewater created opportunities early, with Kevin Polanco forcing a save from Miles Furman in the fifth minute and Luis Ibanez testing the goalkeeper in the 11th. Washington and Lee threatened when Anthony Careccia struck the right post in the 15th minute before Ricardo Sanchez scored an unassisted goal in the 18th to put the Generals ahead.
• Kowalski denied Careccia in the 22nd minute, and the Eagles defended four Washington and Lee corners over a four-minute stretch to keep the deficit at one. Queen forced another save in the 29th as Bridgewater searched for an equalizer amid increasingly frequent whistles.
• The physical battle continued through the remainder of the half, with Polanco receiving a yellow card in the 31st minute and Leyden Mongold cautioned in the 44th. The teams combined for 15 first-half fouls, but the Eagles kept generating chances through Queen and Trey Widrick. BC entered halftime trailing 1-0 despite an 8-7 edge in shots.
• The intensity carried into the second half, with Sanchez receiving a caution in the 48th minute. Kowalski kept Bridgewater within reach through a series of important stops, denying Rowan Sellers, Sami Seife and Sanchez before turning away Matthew Jenkins in the 61st minute.
• The Eagles answered in the 63rd minute. Following a Washington and Lee foul, Mongold connected with Queen, who finished at 62:05 to level the match at 1-1. The goal rewarded Bridgewater’s persistence and set up a tightly contested final stretch.
• Neither team found a winner as the second half produced 17 more fouls and four yellow cards. Polanco forced two saves just 36 seconds apart around the 80-minute mark before Kowalski denied Seife in the 82nd. The Eagles withstood late corners and consecutive Generals attempts in the 85th minute, while the game’s final caution came with just seven seconds remaining.

Match Notes
• Queen scored his 10th goal of the season and tied Polanco for the team lead with five shots. Mongold supplied the assist, while Kowalski recorded five of his six saves in the second half.
• Sanchez led Washington and Lee with four shots and scored its lone goal. Furman finished with five saves.
• Bridgewater recorded 14 shots, including six on target, and six corner kicks. Washington and Lee finished with 18 shots, seven on goal and 10 corners. BC committed 15 fouls and received four yellow cards, while the Generals totaled 17 fouls and two cautions.

What’s Next?
The Eagles will play out the remainder of their season at home with Hampden-Sydney visiting on Homecoming Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Shenandoah on Oct. 28 to round out the regular season.
