Reverse 911 Call Warns Of HAZMAT Situation

Harrisonburg, Va – Some Harrisonburg residents got a very early wake-up call this morning.

Harrisonburg Fire Department used reverse 9-1-1 to warn folks of something going on at Shenandoah Valley Organic on Liberty Street.

Fire Chief Ian Bennett says they arrived on scene about 1:30 this morning to find an ammonia cloud above the building from an apparent ammonia leak. The reverse 9-1-1 call asked area residents to shelter in place.

Bennett says other than a foul smell, there were not any major issues as the ammonia cloud above the poultry plant dissipated.
