Mental Health

Recently we heard that Olympian Simone Biles has pulled herself out of the Olympics due to a medical issue. But later she announced that she was suffering from mental health and decided for herself that she needed to leave and take care of herself. Social media isn’t taking it very well. While some are understanding the need of Biles having to take care of herself others aren’t as kind. Saying she “owes it to us”, “she owes it to her team”, “She is letting us down” and the list goes on. While I see all points being made the truth of the matter is she owes NO ONE anything. If you have never suffered from mental health you are clueless to what is going in the mind of someone who is. The voices can creep up on you. You also hear “she knew she had issues why did she go” Well yeah sure maybe she did, but someone who has mental health issues does their best to push through in hopes of overcoming it thinking “this is what I wanted so why can’t I be happy and do this”. The mind is a tricky place for those with mental health issues, but instead of judging her and putting more pressure on her it’s time that she is supported for having the courage for HERSELF to see that her problem is bigger than she may have ever expected as a young woman. ! She is NOT weak some are just flat out heartless thinking she owes YOU something. She owes nothing to America either. She owes everything to HERSELF to get better and take care for her future.
