No. 14 Bridgewater Baseball gets two run-rule wins over Wilson

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College baseball took down Wilson in the doubleheader Saturday in both games Saturday with two run-rule games after seven innings.

Game 1 score: Bridgewater 22, Wilson 2
Game 2 score: Bridgewater 15, Wilson 4

Records: BC (15-2), WC (1-7-1)

How It Happened
Game 1
• The Eagles poured on runs from the beginning. Trent Holland smacked a three-run home run to get the offensive barrage started. In the second inning, BC tallied two runs as Bryce Suters and Jake Harris hit RBI singles.
• At 3-1, BC had a three-run third inning as Ashton Smith homered to left field. Chandler Valbak tripled through the right side for an RBI, and Suters continued the hot bat with his second RBI.
• The Eagles collected a a massive seven-run inning in the fifth to hold a 15-2 lead as Suters hit his third hit with the help of a two-run homer.
• The Phoenix struggled to connect on the defensive side with a pair of errors and connecting in the strike zone. Wilson put up two runs in the second and third, but the Eagles came away with a powerful display offensively with 22 runs.

Game 2
• The same action followed in the second game. More offensive success went BC’s way despite the early lead Wilson brought forward with a 2-0 score. The Eagles quickly responded in the first inning and never looked back. BC tallied six runs in the first inning with RBIs coming from Ashton Smith, Zack Chadwell, Bryce Suters, Spencer Sigmon, and Nick Stavros.
• BC continued to capitalize with a two-run second inning as Isaac Sumpter and Zack Chadwell added to the offense off fielding miscues.
• More smart plays and plate discipline were on display as the game went on as BC had six hits on 16 RBIs. Bases were loaded in the third inning, and two walks were granted by Trent Holland and Chandler Valbak to attach 10 runs on the board for a 10-2 advantage. Sumpter closed the third with a sac fly to make the lead stand at 11-2.
• Moving players around became the priority with new looks and new team switches. Nick Stavros succeeded on another team RBI sac fly while Austin Crew and Luke Tomajaczyk contributed to the offensive force to lay on 15 runs at the seven-inning run rule.

Game Notes
Game 1
• Bryce Suters highlighted the first game with four RBIs along with his third home run of the season.
• Cam Nuckols earned his third win of the season with just one earned run through six innings and three strikeouts.
• Bridgewater posted 22 runs which marks the most runs since 2024.
Game 2
• Nick Stavros recorded a team-high three RBIs on the day.
• Evan Bert earned the win after pitching five full innings on three hits, an earned run, and five strikeouts.
• Bridgewater worked a total of 10 walks.
