HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball (9-8) dropped an 8–0 decision to Michigan (17-5) at Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Michigan struck first with a run in the opening inning before JMU’s defense held the Wolverines scoreless in the second. The Dukes threatened in the bottom half of the second and again in the third, but left a runner in scoring position both times.

The Wolverines broke the game open in the third, plating three runs highlighted by a two-run home run. Michigan added three more in the fourth on a three-run shot and tacked on a solo homer in the fifth to secure the 8–0 final.

The Dukes scattered four hits on the day, with singles from Emily LeGrand, Mia Tribul, Bella Henzler and Kendra Lewis, but couldn’t close the gap.

JMU is set to hit the road for the second annual Hokie Invite at Moyer Sports Complex from March 5–8, with match ups against Boston College, Virginia Tech, Bryant, Penn State, and Radford. First pitch against the Eagles is set for Friday, March 8 at 3:30 p.m.
