HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – A give-and-go goal in the 26th minute dropped James Madison men’s soccer against Gardner-Webb, 1-0, on Sunday night in the finale of the Fairfield by Marriott Invitational at Sentara Park.
The Dukes fell to 0-2 this season while the Runnin’ Bulldogs improved to 2-0.
Redshirt junior Cameron Arnold and redshirt freshman Smith Halloran each had two shots to lead the offense for JMU. Graduate Joshua Moya posted four saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
How It Happened
• The first chance of the match came in the fifth minute when Moya made a stop on Robbie Lyons’ shot.
• GWU broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute, as Jaylen Orr found the back of the net inside the six-yard box.
• The Dukes put a trio of shots up in a 2:14 span, but none were able to get past the GWU goalkeeper.
• Moya was active in goal, making a pair of saves against Kpardeh Samson in the 38th and 40th minutes.
• JMU had an uptick in its offensive production in the second half, taking six of its nine shots in the final 45 minutes.
• Sophomore Manuel Lolas gave the Dukes an opportunity in the 65th minute, but his shot came up saved.
