HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – There were multiple things to celebrate for Wednesday’s game.

In addition to celebrating the Royals MBB seniors, Donovan Arnason and Zach Bailey, EMU was also able to celebrate a win as they never trailed in a 73-61 win over Shenandoah in EMU’s home finale.

Records: EMU 8-16, 5-10 ODAC | Shenandoah 11-14, 4-11 ODAC

Highlights

First Half
The Royals came out firing on all cylinders, taking a 14-3 lead through the game’s first five minutes, with Isaiah Carr scoring six, Jazen Walker adding four and Arnason and Bailey each picking up two. EMU would continue to lead by double digits, with their biggest lead getting up to 15 after a four-point play from Carr. SU was able to chip away at the Royals lead, getting it down to six after a 14-5 run, and a 3-2 Hornet tilt over the final 24 seconds of the first half, cut EMU’s lead to just five, 34-29, at the break.

Second Half
Shenandoah hit a pair of free throws to pull within three to start the second half, and even got within two after a three pointer at the 15:43 mark. But the second half should have been called the Aaron Brooks show, as the junior point guard put EMU on his back, scoring 18 of his team-high 20 points in the second half. After SU had gotten back within six with nine minutes left, EMU went on a 9-4 run, with six points from Brooks, to push their lead back to 12. Shenandoah was able to get back to within five, but anytime they gained momentum, Brooks hit a clutch shot to snatch it right back. Five would be as close as the Hornets would get as EMU ended the game on a 13-6 run, with Brooks dropping eight and Bailey adding four.

Statistical Leaders
Points: Brooks (20), Carr & Walker (16), Bailey (10)
Rebounds: Walker (8), Bailey (7)
Assists: Arnason (3)
Steals: BJ Nkrumah (2)

What’s Next
EMU will wrap up the 2025-26 season on Saturday, when they head to Danville for a date with Averett University. Tipoff against the Cougars is set for noon.
