AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Augusta County authorities are investigating a bomb threat that was called in last week to the Dairy Queen on US Route 11 in Verona.

Lieutenant Leslie Snyder reported that the call came in just before 9:30 p.m. Friday and the caller alleged that there were multiple explosive devices at that location.

Officials evacuated the building and closed it for the night. An explosive detective K-9 unit from The University of Virginia Police Department was brought in and determined that no explosive devices were in the vicinity.

An investigation determined that the call came from a prison in Clio, Alabama.

In a release, Sheriff Donald L. Smith said the increased law enforcement presence at the scene Friday night was a precaution.

“The increased law enforcement and fire and rescue presence in the Verona area was out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our community.” “At no time was there a threat to the Verona area,” Smith said.

The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with authorities at the prison to see if an inmate there is responsible for making this threat.
