A house fire early Sunday morning in Augusta County.
Crews responded for a reported structure fire on Berkeley Place just before 4 a.m. and found fire burning through the rear of the house.
Staunton Fire and Rescue says two occupants were able to escape and were transported by Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad to Augusta Health for treatment of smoke inhalation. One of the occupants was transferred to MCV for further treatment.
Crews remained on scene for approximately 4 hours. Staunton Fire and Rescue, Augusta County Fire-Rescue and Swoope Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the scene. Verona Volunteer Fire Company stood by at Station 1.
The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental. No damage estimate has been determined yet. There were no working smoke alarms in the residence.
