STAUNTON, Va – A Middle River Regional Jail Inmate passed away this morning.

Officers were notified that a female inmate was having a medical emergency in one of the female dormitory housing areas and responded along with medical personnel just after four o’clock.

They began administrating C-P-R and called E-M-S. However, despite their best efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sheriff Donald L. Smith added that the identity of the inmate is not being released until the victim’s family has been notified.
