(Staunton) – Commonwealth’s Attorney Tim Martin has named Joseph W. Lee III as the next Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for Augusta County. Lee was named to the position after the County’s former Chief Deputy left the office earlier this month to accept an appointment as a General District Court judge for Virginia’s 25th Judicial District.
“I’m so proud to welcome Joseph into this position. He brings a wealth of experience to this new role, and I know he’ll do a fantastic job seeking justice for the citizens of Augusta County,” said Martin.
Lee joined the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in May of 2016, bringing with him 10 years of prosecutorial experience in the Commonwealth. A graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and the Capital Law and Graduate Center (J.D.), Lee began prosecuting as a member of the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in 2006. For close to nine years, from 2006 until 2015, Joseph prosecuted complex narcotics cases, violent adult felonies, to include robberies and homicides as assigned, felonious assaults and misdemeanor criminal offenses and traffic offenses. In 2015, as a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Joseph supervised a team of prosecutors in drug prosecutions in the City of Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office before joining the Augusta County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
“I am greatly honored to accept the position of Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney and to serve the citizens of Augusta County,” said Lee.
