It’s a brave new world when it comes to student-athlete endorsement deals, and Virginia’s high school sports governing body is changing with the times.

Yesterday, the Virginia High School League overwhelmingly approved a policy that allows the commonwealth’s secondary school athletes to make money off of their name, image and likeness as early as July.

Announcing the decision, V-H-S-L director Billy Haun said N-I-L is here, whether we like it or not, and that this new policy will effectively neuter an emerging eligibility crisis.

Under the ruling, high schoolers can now profit from things like social media activity, endorsement deals, autographs and merchandise sales.
